Sometimes though, the type, size and position of the damage will mean that we recommend the whole windscreen be replaced.
Repairing a windscreen

Step 1 of 4: The size of the chip
For Smith&Smith® to repair a chip in your windscreen the size of the chip needs to be no bigger than 3cm – about the size of a $2 coin.
Step 2 of 4: The position of the chip
For Smith&Smith® to repair the chip it must also be situated more than 5 cm from the edge of the windscreen.
Step 3 of 4: The driver's line of vision
Finally, if the chip is in the driver's line of vision, the damage must not be more than 15 mm across. The driver's line of vision is an area approximately 30 cm wide, centered on the middle of the steering wheel.
