ADAS Calibration FAQs

What is an ADAS calibration?

An ADAS calibration is a process carried out to ensure correct alignment of the cameras and sensors of a car so that its ADAS system can work as intended.

At Smith&Smith®, our technicians are trained to our high standards to complete a camera calibration.

Why do I need a windscreen calibration?

Most ADAS features rely on a group of cameras or sensors to do their job. They usually sit inside a car behind the windscreen and when a glass replacement is carried out, its angle and position could be altered.

A calibration is performed to check this, so that your vehicle's ADAS camera is working as intended.

If a calibration is missed out, an ADAS feature may not work like it should and could compromise a safety system working as it was intended.

What is the difference between dynamic and static calibration?

Dynamic calibration involves driving the vehicle to complete the process.

Static calibration takes place at one of our ADAS calibration centres. Here, we use level floor and specialist equipment to make sure that we can complete a successful calibration.

At Smith&Smith® we are equipped to cater for both Dynamic and Static Advanced Driver Assistance System Calibration, for many vehicles.

How long does it take to complete a calibration?

A glass replacement with an ADAS calibration will usually take around 3 hours fir an in-house calibration completed by us, however it may take longer if we need to take the vehicle off-site to complete the calibration.

If any additional time is required, we will let you know on the day of your appointment.

Your ADAS calibration appointment

If your car is fitted with ADAS technology, it may require a calibration following a windscreen replacement. But don't worry, we'll let you know when you book with us.

One of our fully-trained technicians will then perform the calibration during your appointment using our in-house tools when available. In some cases where we are not able to complete the calibration service in-house, we will arrange for your vehicle camera to be recalibrated for you.

At Smith&Smith®, we are the ADAS calibration specialists, with the expert knowledge and tools to complete a calibration.
