Common types of ADAS features

Adaptive Cruise Control

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) is a system used to help avoid accidents by always keeping your car a safe distance from the traffic ahead. ACC uses a radar-based system that does not usually require calibration. However, some systems use cameras to see objects and will require a calibration after fitting a replacement windscreen.

Adaptive Headlights

Adaptive headlights are designed to make driving in low-light conditions safer by increasing the visibility around curves and over hills. This advanced feature uses steering input to make sure that the vehicle’s path is lit up at all times.

Adaptive Headlights use camera-based systems that will normally require calibration after a windscreen replacement.

Blind Spot Awareness

This feature alerts you when another vehicle or object is in your blind spot. Extremely useful when changing lane, Blind Spot Awareness can help prevent collisions.

This ADAS system uses radar technology that does not currently require calibration after a windscreen replacement.

Autonomous Emergency Braking

Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) is a feature that helps improve safety by identifying critical situations early and warning the driver. AEB also has the ability to reduce the severity or the chance of an accident by lowering the speed before collision.

AEB systems use both lidar and radar technology. However, some systems do use cameras to detect objects and these will often will require a calibration after fitting a new windscreen.

Lane Departure Warning

This advanced system uses cameras to detect if the driver is unintentionally straying out of its lane. It alerts the driver with an audible warning or a vibration on the steering wheel.

Lane Departure Warning uses both lidar and camera-based technology, camera-based technology more often than not will require calibration if you replace your windscreen.

Your ADAS calibration appointment

If your car is fitted with ADAS technology, it may require a calibration following a windscreen replacement. But don't worry, we'll let you know when you book with us.

One of our fully-trained technicians will then perform the calibration during your appointment using our in-house tools when available. In some cases where we are not able to complete the calibration service in-house, we will arrange for your vehicle camera to be recalibrated for you.

At Smith&Smith®, we are the ADAS calibration specialists, with the expert knowledge and tools to complete a calibration.

Request an appointment online today or call us on 0800 48 33 88 to arrange an appointment.
